Advances in technology have packed more and more computing power into less and less space. Over the last few years, the laptop computer has become an indispensable tool to nearly every attorney. The laptop has allowed lawyers to remain in touch with their offices while travelling on business, as well as being able to carry entire of case files with them - in an electronic format. Recent developments have shrunk that computing power even further. Handheld computers can now offer many of the same features as laptop and desktop computers in a package that fits into the user's hand.

A number of manufacturers have developed handheld computers known as Pocket PC that rival the recent generations of desktop computers in the depth of their features and computing power. The newest Pocket PCs feature 624 MHz processors, 64 MB of memory, and full color, high-resolution screens. The Microsoft-developed operating system gives these devices "pocket" versions of Word, Excel and Outlook that make them very familiar to computer users making the move to the Pocket PC.
