No matter how often we update "The Cybersleuth's Guide to the Internet," resources on the Internet change more often. So to help keep book owners up to date, from time to time, we include changes to the current edition in our free e-mail newsletter.
Owners should note:
8th Edition
Virtual Reference Desk (aka "AskA") - page 75 This U.S. Department of Education-sponsored service is no longer available.
Pretrieve - pages 94 & 97 Pretrieve no longer provides free results from various public records sources. It now refers all searches to the pay services offered by Intelius. (Thanks to Tamara Thompson of PI Buzz for the heads-up about this.)
These sites may have also appeared in previous editions of the book (titled "How to Use the Internet for Investigative & Legal Research"). Owners of those editions should check the index of their copy to see which pages these sites appear on.
To read more about recent changes to sites in "The Cybersleuth's Guide to the Internet", see the following article:
8th Edition available for purchase. Unlike others guides which present sites as little more than a list of links, this book offers tips on how to effectively use those sites and includes screen-shots to illustrate the step-by-step usage of many of the sites discussed.
