Since its earliest days, Google has created whimsical plays on its logo to commemorate special events. These "Google Doodles" have memorialized everything from the first day of Spring to Albert Einstein's birthday.
The June 9, 2011 doodle commemorated what would have been the 96th birthday of guitar great (and invetor of the electric guitar) Les Paul. The "strings" of the doodle are strummable and individual strings can be played using the keys on the computer keyboard. The run of strings begins with the first key in a given row and progresses one tone for each key to the right (for example Q W E R T Y U I O P) - through the 10 tones/strings in the doodle. (Oh, and by the way, it's in the key of G...as in Google.)
Clicking the red button beneath the dodole records your tune and provides you with a URL to access the recording for later playback.

UPDATE: The Google Les Paul Doodle has a permanent home.
